Here at Loch Lomond Waterfront, we are lucky to be right next to the Conic Hill, a fantastic Loch Lomond hiking trail. And the Conic Hill walk is a firm favourite with walkers offering some of the most spectacular panoramic views over Loch Lomond. So when you stay with us this is definitely worth exploring.

About the Conic Hill walk at Balmaha Loch Lomond

Before you embark upon this walking trail by Loch Lomond it’s worth finding out a bit about it. Being graded as a slightly harder walk it is well worth wearing proper walking shoes and bringing appropriate walking gear. Also important to point out is depending on the time of year and weather, it can in parts be a little boggy and slippy. However, it is well worth the effort. After a stiff ascent up this sharp summit via a good path, you are met with stunning views! So that you can make the most of it bring a picnic and enjoy a scenic lunch. And bring plenty of water! It’s a thirsty climb.

Please obey the Scottish Outdoor Access Code

But please respect this beautiful place and its wildlife. You can see more here about this in the Scottish Outdoor Access Code. Take your litter home including eaten fruit. If you can carry it up you can carry it down. And it’s far lighter once consumed. Plus downhill is easier too! And be sure to be respectful on toilet stops. Go before you start and follow the code of conduct by being prepared if you get caught out!

Situation and route

Sitting on the East banks this Loch Lomond walking trail starts at a car park in Balmaha. Here you will find plenty of parking and there is also an information centre. Firstly, you meander through a forest before coming upon a gate. From here you will see Conic Hill ahead in the clearing. Next, you ascend some wooden steps, taking you on to the main path that curves between Conic Hill and its neighbour. From here you start to see the views unfold. As you follow the path right up to the ridge (the highest point) you will be in awe. And then you simply follow your route back down. Lastly, you must visit the Tom Weir statue in Balmaha. And if in need of some refreshments you can stop off at The Oak Tree Inn. For more information on this trail click here.

Testimonials

  • Outstanding location

'The location is outstanding - right on the edge of Loch Lomond with private water frontage and beaches. As a location for exploring, again this rates very highly. We easily accessed central Glasgow by train from nearby Balloch and also explored Stirling (particularly the castle and Wallace memorial), the Falkirk Wheel and even Perth and Pitlochry by car. It is a very peaceful place, which can only be disturbed on occasion by your neighbours but with the Slumber Charter in place, we had absolutely no problems overnight.'
  • The staff go above and beyond

'The staff were fantastic and massive thank you to Rafal who was great checking everyone in on Friday and who also went above and beyond and took my grandparents back to their holiday cottage in Milton of Buchanan after the wedding!'
  • My stay will never be forgotten

'Just wanted to say a very big thank you for my wonderful stay, I have no words to describe the incredible comfort I had at the Cawdor Diamond Lodge, I just checked out today this morning from lodge 5, I do not agree that your lodge is a five star if I could I would call it a 100 star lodge. From start to finish, my stay at the lodge will never be forgotten it's special and unique and an amazing experience'
