Historic Attractions

There are so many historical places of interest in Stirling. As an important royal stronghold, Stirling set the scene for many significant events in Scottish history. Of course, no day trip would be complete without a tour of Stirling Castle. One of the largest of Scotland’s castles, extremely well-preserved and still in use today. Childhood home of Mary Queen of Scots and James VI / I, it certainly has some stories to tell. Other historic highlights nearby include the National Wallace Monument, The Old Town Jail, Doune Castle and Church of the Holy Rude.

Distilleries and Breweries

There are a few distilleries and breweries in and around Stirling, where you can learn more about the creation of your favourite drinks and try some for yourself. Stirling Distillery produces Stirling Gin, and you can take a tour of their Victorian building and discover more about the wonderful world of botanicals. At Deanston Distillery, they craft Scotch whisky and tours are available of the working distillery, a former cotton mill with a rich history. Or, for beer and cider fans, visit Allanwater Brewhouse and discover some of their brewing secrets.

The Wild Side

The red kite is a magnificent bird of prey, re-introduced to Scotland in the 20th century and still a fragile population. You can spot these amazing creatures at Agaty Red Kites feeding station. Here, you can watch from dedicated viewing hides, offering great views of the kites without disturbing them. Blair Drummond Safari Park is also close by. A zoo and drive-through safari park, where you’ll meet over 350 rare and exotic animals from all over the world.

It is a very peaceful place, which can only be disturbed on occasion by your neighbours but with the Slumber Charter in place, we had absolutely no problems overnight.'
