Glengoyne Distillery

Visit Glengoyne Distillery

For whisky lovers, a visit to a local distillery during their stay in Scotland is a must! Here at Loch Lomond Waterfront, we are only a 20-minute drive from Glengoyne Distillery. This producer of Scotch whisky was founded in 1833. Today it offers a selection of tours, so you can see for yourself how the whisky is made and try some for yourself.

Glengoyne Distillery is located in Dumgoyne, on the Highland Line between the Highlands and the Lowlands of Scotland. This unique position means that although its stills are in the Highlands, its maturing casks are in the Lowlands. Therefore making it the only Highland whisky producer to mature its casks in the Lowlands.

Distillery Tours

The Glengoyne Tour takes you on a journey through the whisky-making process. You’ll get to sample a dram, learn how Glengoyne create their flavours, and see where it all happens.

There are several other tours to pick from, which include further tastings. Plus, there is a Whisky and Chocolate Tour, where whiskies are matched to handmade chocolates. And even a Malt Master Tour, where you get the chance to create your very own single malt whisky.

After your chosen tour, take a walk to the hidden waterfall and wooded glen beside the distillery.

Glengoyne Whisky

Glengoyne’s whisky is described as smooth, bold and complex. Due to its location on the boundary between the Highlands and Lowlands, it doesn’t have that peaty flavour that many Highland whiskies have.

In the onsite shop, you can purchase premium whiskies, tasting kits and collectables such as whisky glasses and decanters. So you can find the perfect souvenir from your visit.

Reaching Glengoyne

You can reach Glengoyne Distillery by car, bus or as part of a coach tour. And if you are cycling or walking the West Highland Way, it is an ideal stopping point. Find out more on the Glengoyne website and see directions here.
