Things to do in Helensburgh

Helensburgh is just around a half-hour drive from your accommodation at Loch Lomond Waterfront. An elegant town on the River Clyde, lying south of Loch Lomond. Here are some of our favourite things to do in Helensburgh …

Top Visitor Attractions

The Hill House in Helensburgh is not only a house, but a work of art. Designed by artist and architect, Charles Rennie Mackintosh, and his wife and fellow-artist, Margaret Macdonald Mackintosh. They created everything in the house, from the actual building to the furniture and textiles inside it. As the most famous of their surviving works, it is a popular place to visit and explore.

Helensburgh is home to Scotland’s only submarine museum and education centre. A fascinating and unique museum. The Submarine Centre offers a glimpse into the history of submarines and the lives of submariners, past and present

The town is also a departure point for the PS Waverley, the world’s last seagoing paddle steamer. Built in 1946, she is still making passenger excursions around the UK today. View this season’s timetable.

Parks, Gardens and Walks

There are some wonderful places to walk in and around Helensburgh.

Linn Botanic Gardens and Glenearn Gardens are both calm and tranquil havens to stroll through and enjoy beautiful plant collections.

The Helensburgh and Rhu Explorer is a lovely woodland walk, starting at the Hill House. For a more challenging route, you can climb to the summit of Tom na h-Airidh. With excellent views over Gare Loch, the Firth of Clyde and beyond.

At the end of a busy day, you can be back at your Loch Lomond Waterfront accommodation in 30 minutes. So relax, unwind and get ready for your next adventure!
