Drymen

Things to do in Drymen

A 10-minute drive from here at Loch Lomond Waterfront takes you to Drymen, near Stirling. This is a popular village with walkers and there are plenty of things to see and do. Part of Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, Drymen is located to the west of the Campsies, with views of Dumgoyne and Loch Lomond. Drymen was recently named one of the UK’s top hidden gem destinations by Home To Go.

Village history

The name Drymen comes from “druimean”, meaning hill ridge. With a rich history, the village was a stopping place for cattle drovers travelling between markets in the 18th and 19th centuries. There are medieval remains of a motte fortification in the village. Along with ruins of the 17th century Buchanan Castle just a mile away.

Shopping and dining

Drymen is centred around a village square, and has a selection of shops, pubs, cafés and restaurants, a church and a village hall. The Drymen Inn and The Clachan offer delicious dining and drinking. Moon, a clothing shop is worth a visit if fashion is something you enjoy. Nearby is Tir Na Nog holistic centre. With a delightful shop, café and treatments on offer you can enjoy a trip to this peaceful and tranquil setting.

Walking and cycling

Located by the West Highland Way, Rob Roy Way and John Muir Way. – This is a great place for local walks. You can purchase a map at the village shop, which details all the best walking routes. Cyclists will also find plenty of routes here, and it is on the Lochs and Glens Way (National Cycle Network 7).

Golf clubs

There are two golf courses in Drymen. Buchanan Castle Golf Course is a beautiful 18-hole course near the ruins of Buchanan Castle, designed by James Braid in 1936. And the Strathendrick Golf Course dates from 1901 and offers 9-holes on the banks of the River Endrick. Both parkland courses welcome visitors, but we recommend booking a tee time in advance.

Enjoy your day in Drymen before returning to your luxury lodge here at Loch Lomond to unwind, put your feet up and start planning tomorrow’s great adventures!
