Places to visit near Loch Lomond

Loch Lomond is one of the most beautiful and inspirational lochs in Scotland. If you’re wondering where you might have heard of it before, perhaps it was this song?

A loch is the Scottish name for a lake, and is pronounced…well, it’s not pronounced lock! Loch Lomond sits on the border between the Highlands and the Lowlands of Scotland. Geologically, it lies over the Highland Boundary Fault, an ancient faultline that won’t cause any earthquakes today. This fault line separates two different terrains, with large mountains in the north and more gentler hills in the south.

With a length of 36 km, a width of up to 8 km wide, and a surface area of 71 km2 the loch has something for everyone. From fishing to boating to wild swimming, it’s a popular loch for activities. It’s also a great place to come and do nothing but enjoy the scenery and enjoy the fresh air.

Loch Lomond the largest surface area of any lake in Great Britain. As such, it’s a haven for all sorts of wildlife. It’s part of the Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park. Loch Lomond is a stunning place to visit at any time of year, with lots of villages, towns and cities to visit nearby.

Testimonials

  • Outstanding location

'The location is outstanding - right on the edge of Loch Lomond with private water frontage and beaches. As a location for exploring, again this rates very highly. We easily accessed central Glasgow by train from nearby Balloch and also explored Stirling (particularly the castle and Wallace memorial), the Falkirk Wheel and even Perth and Pitlochry by car. It is a very peaceful place, which can only be disturbed on occasion by your neighbours but with the Slumber Charter in place, we had absolutely no problems overnight.'
