Things to do in Glasgow

In under an hour, you can drive from us here at Loch Lomond Waterfront to Scotland’s largest city, Glasgow. There are loads of superb things to do in Glasgow, and it’s a city you definitely should visit when you stay with us. Getting from Loch Lomond to Glasgow is straightforward, but do ask us if you need any advice.

City of Culture

Glasgow has recently been named top cultural and creative centre in the UK, and as such there’s plenty to keep you occupied on a visit! The city has magnificent museums such as the Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. You could probably spend a whole day here, discovering everything from ancient Egypt to Salvador Dali.

The work of one of Glasgow’s most famous sons, the architect Charles Rennie Mackintosh, can be seen all over the city. His iconic designs are fascinating to see, and there are plenty of buildings and museums where you can see his work.

Glasgow is also a city of sport, and you can visit the grounds of both main football teams. Celtic Park in the east of the city is home to Celtic FC, one of Europe’s biggest football stadiums. Here you can take a tour of the grounds and learn about its history. In the west of the city is Rangers Football Club. Here’ you can explore the dressing rooms, see the trophy room and even sit in the dugout.

And if you want to know more about Scottish football, then head over to our national stadium, Hampden Park. Here you can get a tour and an experience that all sports fans will love.

Eating & drinking in Glasgow

Whatever your taste, Glasgow is sure to have food that will make you happy. Taste the world in cafes, restaurants and markets throughout the city. Forget about deep fried mars bars that you’ve read on the internet – instead, enjoy deliciously cooked haggis, fine food from Korea or delicious seafood.

If you’re looking for somewhere to drink with truly remarkable views, try the Radisson Red Sky Bar. This offers views out over the city, the River Clyde and beyond, making it the perfect place to sup a pint. And if you are there after the sun goes down, you can watch the city start to light up through the evening.

Perhaps you are looking for a Glasgow restaurant with a view? Try Windows Restaurant, on the 7th floor of the Carlton George Hotel. Here you can look over the chimneys of Glasgow enjoying an afternoon tea or a main meal.

Relaxing in the city

There are plenty of gorgeous parks to relax in on your visit to Glasgow. Of particular interest to visitors is the Glasgow Botanic Gardens. This large expanse of greenery is amazing to visit any time of year. In the summer months you can sit outside and enjoy the peace and quiet. When you’re ready, pop inside the large greenhouse – known as the Kibble Palace – for a stunning collection of plants. There are tearooms too, and best of all entry to the gardens is free! This is one of the most beautiful of all Glasgow attractions.

With all of these things to do in Glasgow, you won’t be bored. Enjoy your day in the big city before returning to your luxury lodge here at Loch Lomond to unwind, put your feet up and start planning for tomorrow!

  • Breathtaking views

'Where to start! We chose the waterfront for our wedding because of the absolutely breathtaking views, location and surroundings. You can't put a price on a view like that. We were planning a small intimate wedding for 28, mid week at the waterfront and living all the way down in Kent, organising could have been so difficult if it wasn't for Sheena the wedding coordinators help. Everything was organised to a fabulous standard and despite my millions of emails she didn't get sick of me and was happy to email pictures and explain thoroughly. We were so lucky to have...
  • A perfect place to relax

'Stayed at the Waterfront Lodges for a Fri to Mon short break for our daughters birthday last weekend. Lodge was placed right on the edge of Loch Lomond with stunning views.'
  • We knew it would be perfect

'From our very first visit to this venue we knew that it was going to be perfect for our reception! The setting is magical, with enchanting views on even the most dreich of days. The staff are fantastic and so accommodating. We loved that we had so much flexibility over our choices, unlike at other venues! There was plenty of space within the private function rooms, which gave our guests plenty of room to socialise while hiding from the wet west coast weather on our big day! It was great not having to share our day with uninvited guests. The...
