In the village

You can experience the best of Scotland’s scenery, hospitality, history and heritage without leaving Balmaha. Here are a few that we can recommend.

For more things to do use our interactive map.

Boat hire and island boat trips

Small rowing or motor boats can be hired direct from Balmaha’s own boatyard where you can also catch the traditional mail boat across to Inchailloch to explore the numerous walks on the island.

Alternatively, Sweeney’s Cruises provide a water bus service where you can hop on and off or simply enjoy a full circle cruise around the islands – its a fascinating tour. You can visit the cosy Luss coffee shops, pubs and gift shops or explore the islands and look out for the white stags which can often be spotted from the boat. Find out more about their sailing times and season.

Canoe and kayak hire

Balmaha House hire out canoes and kayaks from as little as £20.

Gastro pub and mini brewery

Roaring log fires, real ales and one of the largest ranges of Scottish malts we have seen, make The Oak Tree Inn a great place to spend an evening. All within a few minutes walk from the Waterfront.

Local shop

A good range of basic provisions in the village shop. Alternatively Tesco, Sainsbury’s and ASDA will deliver online orders.
