Eating out at Loch Lomond

Most of the villages in this area have at least one or more local pub however below are some of our own favourites and recommendations that we have tried over the years.

The Oak Tree Inn, Balmaha

A family owned pub and restaurant looking out over the Balmaha boatyard. The Oak Tree is incredibly popular with both tourists and locals and is just a two minute walk from the lodges. A large open fireplace heats the bar throughout the winter months and during the summer customers often enjoy refreshments and dining outside in their beer garden. The Oak Tree also deliver superb Pizza’s, home baked in their traditional stone pizza oven.

The Drymen Inn, Drymen

Newly opened, tastefully restored. Family run – bistro/Inn with log fire, good atmosphere and quality good value food.

Best for: live music and  meet the locals

The Clachan, The Square, Drymen

The Clachan, another family owned pub can boast the title of the oldest pub in Scotland. Good homemade food or simply a quiet drink can be enjoyed in a cosy, friendly atmosphere.

Best for: history, tradition and good value cooking  ( argued to be the oldest pub in Scotland)

Lake of Menteith Hotel and waterfront Restaurant, Port of Menteith

Overlooking Scotland’s only lake this Nick Nairn signature restaurant provides superb, high quality food. Bookings advisable.

The Winnock, the Square, Drymen

Bar and Restaurant meals are available. Booking is advisable for the restaurant at weekends.

The Inn, Kippen

Excellent, contemporary Scottish food can be enjoyed here. It is more expensive than other local pubs but is good for a special occasion.

The Wayfarers, Croftamie

This is a small bar/restaurant in the neighbouring village, which provides pleasant food. Scottish Folk evenings once a month.

Culcreuch Castle, Fintry

This is an old converted castle providing bar and restaurant meals. It is about a 20 minute drive away however has lovely gardens to relax and stroll in.
